Devouring the Forbidden Fruit - Higher Education
by cappytan inwell, i told my wife over the weekend i was going to go back school to finish my degree.
she is 100% supportive of it!
apparently she doesn't think higher education is so evil either.. since my former major was computer programming and that was in the late 1990's, i was told i'd have to retake a bunch of classes since times have changed.

New "donation" arrangement begins to FAIL
by Tech49 inso here we are, almost a year into the "new" congregation donation arrangement.
and its beginning, as was predicted, to fail miserably, and to have direct negative consequences on the poor sheep.. let me give you a little experience, directly from our congregation of about 80 publishers.
back in may, after reading the letter about the "new" arrangement, the elder body decided to "donate" the extra funds on hand to wt, as directed.

I'll have to check the posted accounts report because I don't even remember what the tithing err voluntary congregation donation was each month.
As many said at the time this was implemented, people tend to be overly optimistic about their ability to contribute on those anonymous surveys and as a result, there was an unrealistic amount promised. And the WTS likely knew this was going to be the case. Certainly seems to open the way for a tithing arrangement so they can track the slackers.
I thought about putting down $100 per month on a slip but I've shared in so much deception as a JW that I simply can't be bothered anymore. So we didn't turn a slip in.

The Watchtower organization's crime against humanity
by TerryWalstrom inwho are the real heroes of society?.
are they not the people who are doctors and nurses and teachers and firemen and policemen and counselors and humanitarians?.
because of the watchtower organization, we are missing generations of those kinds of heroes who will not exist (but could have) because jehovah's witnesses destroyed them by convincing millions of it's members those professions are meaningless and unimportant for them to pursue.

Talk about overly dramatic!! So some minor religious group committed a "crime against humanity" because they discouraged people from developing their talents? You are giving them WAY more credit than they deserve and as was been pointed out, they are a grain of sand on the beach of humanity. The only people this stupid religion matters to are; us and those few that get their Sat morning disturbed for a few minute before they slam the door.
Focus on folks that are really causing problems like radical Muslims that actually do destroy people, beheading them, setting them on fire. Those are ACTUAL crimes against humanity.
A JW will read this and completely dismiss as "apostates" exaggerating.

Your body of elders - were they liberal, conservative or moderate?
by minimus inin my first kingdom hall, the elders were ultra conservative.
our presiding overseer used to be a zone overseer.
the second hall i was in was moderate.

generally conservative, I was the liberal guy on the BOE and was at odds with the Taliban -

On the one hand, it seems like a missed opportunity but on the other hand, Morris wouldn't have a serious conversation about issues with ANY peon JW much less an "apostate". I'm not a big fan of prank calls just seem juvenile to me. Honestly, I wouldn't want to talk to that scumbag (Morris) anyway. -

New Appointments Are Very Fast & All On The CO
by baldeagle inthe week of september 15, 2014 was the congregations cos visit.
the midweek meeting was on tuesday, a very general bland talk was given by the co. in the past we would have had the elders & servants meeting on thursday night, and the other congregation meeting on friday.
as you know the friday meeting is no more.

Same with me. There was also a deletion and that had the same wording. No "I" from the CO -

Conti Appeal Preview - Oral Argument Jan 14
by Chaserious inwith hopefully a good deal of interest here in the conti appeal tomorrow (or later today, depending on where you are), i thought that on my ride home from work tonight i'd preview what to expect and what i think the key issues are for any who are interested.
i have had a busy few weeks and haven't had time to read everything, but i had some time to look at the appeal briefs during my work commute the past couple days.
it'll be interesting to see what develops out of the network news coverage of this case.

Thanks for putting the issues in laymen terms. This will be really interesting. I think if the verdict is upheld, that could represent some real issues for not only the WTS but other similar institutions. At it's heart, I really think that they did have a duty to warn and certainly prevent the pedophile from being around children at congregation sponsored events (meetings/field service).
Hopefully the WTS will end up changing some of their policies as a result.
